Just a Dad Fumbling Through It

Hey — I'm Ryan. Most people around here know me as Degen Dad. Father of two daughters (ages 4 and 2 as of writing this), husband, and a guy who is genuinely trying to figure out this whole parenting thing in real time. Some days I nail it. Most days I'm just hoping nobody notices that I have no idea what I'm doing.

I started Degen Dad because I kept looking for parenting content that actually sounded like how dads talk to each other — and I couldn't find it. Everything was either written by "experts" who haven't changed a diaper since 2014, or it was so polished and curated that it felt like watching someone else's highlight reel while your kid is screaming about the wrong color cup.

So I figured I'd just... say the stuff out loud. The real stuff. Like how nobody tells you that toddlers are basically tiny drunk people with opinions. Or how you can feel like the best dad in the world at 9 AM and a complete failure by 9:15. Or how you're supposed to be "present" but also somehow earning a living and keeping the house from falling apart and remembering to drink water.

What This Site Is

Degen Dad is a resource hub for fathers. Not the "I woke up at 4 AM and journaled about my intentions" kind of dad content. This is for the dad who forgot to pack a diaper bag, improvised with a Ziploc and a prayer, and somehow made it home alive.

You'll find practical tips, real checklists you can actually use, step-by-step guides for the stuff nobody prepares you for, and honest takes on everything from sleep training to potty training to keeping your marriage intact when you're both running on four hours of sleep.

The content covers parenting across every stage — newborn chaos, toddler tantrums, the whole ride. I also talk about crypto, life stuff, and whatever else is on my mind. But the core of this site is parenting from the dad perspective, because there's not enough of that out there.

The Degen Part

Yeah, "Degen" comes from the crypto world — short for "degenerate," which is what you call someone who checks charts at 2 AM while their kid is finally sleeping instead of, you know, also sleeping. I got into crypto a few years back and it became a genuine interest. Not the "I'm going to sell you an alpha group" kind of interest — more like the "I check my portfolio under the dinner table while pretending to look for a dropped fork" kind.

Crypto shows up here sometimes. It's part of who I am. But this site isn't a trading blog and I'm definitely not giving financial advice. I can barely manage my kid's snack budget.

The Real Talk

I believe in being honest about the hard parts. Parenting can be isolating, especially for dads. We're not great at talking about it. We're conditioned to "figure it out" and "tough it out" and those phrases work great until you're crying in the shower because your two-year-old told you she doesn't like you today and it hit harder than it should have.

Burnout is real. Anxiety is real. Feeling like you're losing yourself inside the role of "dad" is real. I talk about all of it here because pretending it's not happening doesn't help anyone.

Connect

I'm most active on TikTok and X (Twitter) where I post videos and thoughts about parenting, life, and the occasional crypto take. If something on this site helped you, or if you just want to say hey — reach out. Seriously. The whole point of this is to build a community of dads who are in it together.

We're all fumbling through it. Might as well fumble together.
