Checklist / Bottle Feeding

The Ultimate Bottle Feeding Checklist for Dads

Whether you're formula feeding, combo feeding, or handling pumped breast milk — bottle feeding is your chance to be the one doing the actual feeding. It's also your chance to massively screw up formula ratios, overheat milk, and discover that your baby hates every bottle except the one you didn't buy. This checklist keeps you from the common disasters.

Use this checklist as soon as you start bottle feeding — whether that's day one or month three. Bookmark the formula prep section for midnight feeds when your brain is soup.

Dad Pro Tips

  • #1Make a batch of formula bottles before bed and store them in the fridge. When baby wakes at 2 AM, you grab a pre-made bottle, warm it for a minute, and you're feeding in under 3 minutes instead of scooping powder with one eye open.
  • #2If baby suddenly starts refusing a bottle brand they used to love, check that you haven't accidentally sized up the nipple flow too fast — or that the nipple hasn't gotten worn and is now flowing too fast.
  • #3Keep a bottle feeding log for the first month — time, amount, and any spit-up. When the pediatrician asks 'how much is the baby eating?' you'll have actual data instead of a blank stare and a shrug.
